Of nearly 300 different species of eucalyptus, the oil most commonly used in aromatherapy is distilled from the southern blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus). Its smell is penetrating and fresh, this oil fortifies the immune system and is beneficial for tired people and those who are prone to catching a cold. This essential oil possesses antibacterial and antiviral properties, making a steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil an effective natural remedy for colds. At times of epidemics eucalyptus oil can be used in a steam diffuser.

It is a good remedy for flu and childhood diseases. In case of epidemics and infectious diseases eucalyptus essential oil performs double function: it helps the patient, while also protecting others in contact with a sick person. The following mixture is particularly helpful during epidemics and flu: 4 parts of eucalyptus, 2 parts of thyme, 2 parts of pine and 1 part of lavender essential oils – use it for decontaminating premises and steaming in a diffuser (5 grams of the mixture combined with 500 ml of water).

Due to its analgesic effect, eucalyptus essential oil can be used for massage in cases of rheumatism and muscle pain. This essential oil alleviates migraine pains. It kills viruses and prevents their replication. Suitable for use in saunas.

Eucalyptus essential oil repels flies and mosquitoes, it can be mixed with bergamot or lavender essential oils (to scent a room, refresh the air and repel insects mix 200 grams of water with 20 drops of the essential oil. The oil does not fully dissolve in water, but this amount is enough for refreshing the air. Use a simple spray bottle designed for spraying plants but make sure to store the mixture in different container after use if the spray bottle is made of plastic or metal, as plastic and metal react with essential oils and change their properties). In summer use this mixture to scent the rooms. A quite saturated oil and water solution may be used for cleaning the furniture and item surfaces, though it is best to spread essential oils in the air using an essential oil diffuser.
